Sharing a sad message from the Evansville Police Department:
It is with great sadness that the Evansville Police Department announces the passing of Police K-9 “Taz”. Taz was assigned to Motor Patrol for over 8 years. He worked the streets of Evansville with his Partner, Sgt. Brent Hoover. Taz was responsible for numerous Felony apprehensions and drug arrests. Taz was the first dog to be assigned to the SWAT team. He trained and worked with the team and was just as much a part of the unit as any two legged member.

Before his “retirement” two years ago, Taz participated in numerous community events as an ambassador for the police department. He helped us educate the public on issues involving police dogs. Many people left those events with a much better understanding of our K-9 program thanks to Taz and Sgt. Hoover. Taz competed in national police K-9 competitions where he placed in the top 20 three times. Taz took his place of honor among his fellow K-9’s at the FOP Police K-9 cemetery today. We thank Taz for his service to the department and the community. He will be missed but not forgotten.
