The driver of the white van was identified as Christine M. Ralston age 65 of Somerville. While speaking with Ms. Ralston, Deputy Smith detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Ms. Ralston’s breath. During a roadside investigation Gibson County Medics checked Ms. Ralston for any possible injuries while Deputy Smith continued to investigate the scene. Deputy Smith reported that there were three fresh alcohol bottles thrown in the snow near the white van.
Once Ms. Ralston was cleared by medics on scene, Deputy Smith administered Standard Field Sobriety Tests and a Portable Breath Test. Upon completion of those tests Ms. Ralston was transported to the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office where she was charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated.
Ms. Ralston has since posted a $1300 bond.
