According to investigators, Isaac Sollman, 16, from Haubstadt, and Grant Zilliak, 17, also from Haubstadt, and a third friend, were riding four-wheelers on the Sollman family property. As Sollman and Zilliak approached each other while riding on a lane, the two riders collided head-on resulting in severe injuries to both riders.
The 911 call came in to the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch at 7:41 PM. Gibson County Deputies, Princeton Police Department, Haubstadt Police Department, Gibson County EMS Medic 4, Haubstadt Fire Department, and Indiana Conservation Officers responded to the scene.
Due to the severity of the injuries, Sollman was transported to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville by Air Evac and Zilliak was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville by Life Flight.
Sollman is presently in Intensive Care at Deaconess. Zilliak was later transferred to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for further treatment.
The riders were not wearing helmets at the time of the accident. Speed and limited visibility, due to the time of day, is believed to be factors in the incident. It is not known at this time if headlights were being used. The accident is still under investigation.
